Genesis 1 & 2: Where It All Begins (My Reflections)

I was baptized in the Catholic Church as an adult last Easter, along with my three daughters (ages 14, 12, and 10). I wasn’t raised religiously, but through the help of my husband and his family, I was introduced to the Catholic faith. I am so thankful for the support and knowledge they’ve given me to help myself and my children grow deeper in our relationship with God. It feels so good to always have God’s support through life’s challenges and hard times, and I am so very thankful for the opportunities I have been given to grow my faith every day!

I have started listening to the “Bible in a Year” podcast by Father Mike Schmitz (link below) and feel it’s so important to reflect on my Bible studies through writing because it allows me to take time to not only listen to God but dive deeper into His Word.

If you get a chance to listen to this free podcast, I highly recommend it, as it is so well spoken, explained, and produced!

Today I listened to Day 1: In the Beginning (Genesis 1-2). Wow. There is so much said and done in these first chapters; it’s absolutely incredible and fascinating. To create everything from nothing…how amazing is that? God wasn’t lonely; He didn’t need us; He wanted us. Why?

To share this world with us because He loves us. This is so special. God is perfect, and to want to share this world and creation with someone other than Himself is the truest act of love ever!

We are put on this earth to maintain this world and love as God loves us. We are given a seventh day to rest. That’s all we have to do. Just love one another and the world that we have been given. That’s the easiest, most doable task we will ever be given.

Something that was mentioned in the podcast that I want to reflect on is that God made woman from man, not from his head to look over man, and not from his feet to be below man, but from his side to walk beside man. This is so incredibly important. We must stick with one another, side by side, and doing this, good things happen. It is when one feels they have dominion over another human that bad arises. The Lord said we can have dominion over the creatures and creations of the earth, not one another. If we all stick side by side with each other, everything will be good, because God is good!
