Butter me up: Sourdough Bread and Butter

Wow! When 2025 started, I made a New Year’s resolution to try and make as much as possible from scratch. It’s only February 10th, and I’ve already made so much! I’m especially proud of this sourdough bread—it turned out so good for my first time! The texture, the taste, the appearance—everything about it exceeded my expectations!

I topped a slice of this heavenly sourdough with a generous slathering of butter, which I also made from scratch! The butter turned out absolutely amazing after a few trials and errors.

I wish I had taken more pictures during the process. I want to post the recipe with instructions and photos, which means I’ll just have to make another loaf soon! 🙂 I’ll also create a separate post about the delicious homemade butter.

It’s been almost a month and a half since I dove into the world of homemade cooking. I’m so happy I set this goal for myself this year. It gives me something to work toward, and I get to learn how to be a better cook and baker. The thought of feeding my family good, pure, non-processed food brings me more joy than I could have imagined.

Sure, it takes a lot of work to make things from scratch. A package of four sticks of butter costs about $5.75 here, and a quart of heavy whipping cream (which I used entirely) costs about $6.00. So, I didn’t save money this time. My goal isn’t to save money, but to learn the processes and eat good, real food, so I’m okay with that. If you have access to a milk cow, you could probably save money making your own butter. I would love to have a family milk cow, but we live in a homeowner’s association, so that’s not an option right now.

Regardless, I can’t wait to make another loaf of that yummy sourdough bread and homemade butter so I can share the process with you all!

Off to do the dishes now…haha.

Love Always, Alisha
